Can Botox Give You an Edge in Your Career?

More than 40% of workers over the age of 40 say they’ve experienced age discrimination in the last three years, according to a recent AARP survey. And, with more than 25 million cosmetic procedures completed in the US in 2022, I have to ask, could this upward trend be an attempt of avoid ageism in the workplace?

Minimally invasive procedures like Botox and fillers seem to be the favorites for individuals aged 40 to 54. This age range represents almost half of all procedures, underscoring a heightened focus on aging gracefully while preserving a youthful look in both personal and professional settings.

There’s no doubt we’ve all walked into a room and felt eyes on us—judging our wardrobe choices, hairstyle, and even our bodies. Statistics prove that workplace bias exist and can hinder women from gaining access to influential mentors, high visibility projects, promotions and salary gains. So, if there was something we could do to improve aesthetics and therefore potentially counteract some of these biases, we’d be naive not to explore it, right?
